This gig was a great success, with a good crowd in support even though it was very wet Saturday night. We look forward to getting these two bands together again soon.
Tangent are a one of kind latin/dub/funk band hailing from Auckland. There is no easy way to explain the music they play, hence the name. There message is simple, to spread unity and peace throughout the world. With a rich multicultural mix of Maori, Croat, Serb, Irish, Scottish and English it's easy to see why they are called Tangent.
Having formed 4 years ago with the core group of Nick, Vuk and Alex, the band has increased in size and popularity. They've played to large audiences at Rakinos, Leigh Sawmill Cafe, 4:20 / Rising Sun and Khuja Lounge. Tangent has played in support of One Million Dollars, Batucada Sound Machine and Odessa. Their debut EP is in production right now, so keep your eyes and ears peeled for these guys, no doubt you will get addicted to the funky flava of Tangent.
Rhythm Subrosa (RSR) are a four piece band who play an original mix of dub, reggae and roots, with a focus on performing live. Their up-beat, down-beat and off-beat styles have reached crowds around the country and they are continuing to bring it large Aotearoa dub style, all the while amassing a large following. Formed in Christchurch in 2004 on one cold and chilli evening, the 3 Canterbury University friends Ed Cottrell , Scotty Willson and Tom Fitzgerald collectively became known as Rhythm Subrosa in 2004. RSR started gigging around the local uni scene, performing live at the Wunderbar, the JetSet Lounge, Dux-de-Lux and at the Gardens in Dunedin. They have now re-located to Wellington, New Zealand dub/reggae home - so that they can be fully immersed in the scene and soak up all the creative juices that the city has to offer. The move paid off, and with the addition of Rahu Vause on lead guitar/ percussion they are about to make their mark. This year saw the release of their debut, self titled EP, and 2007 is set to be the year that RSR carve out their place in the New Zealand music scene.
